The Red Guards on Honghu Lake

The Red Guards on Honghu Lake is a classic national opera that made its debut in 1958. In October 1959, the opera was first performed in Beijing as a tribute to the 10th anniversary of the National Day by Hubei Province. Since then, it has become a treasure of Chinese national opera. Zhou Enlai, Dong Biwu, He Long and Chen Yi, leaders of the older generation of the Party and the state, all watched the wonderful performance of the opera and spoke highly of it. This play was shot into a movie, which later become a household film with great popularity in China. Famous verses in the opera, such as "The Waves of Honghu", "No Tears, No Sadness", and "Liberating All the Hardworking People of the World", have been engraved in the memory of all Chinese people for more than half a century, highlighting the unwavering revolutionary faith of the Communists and their deep friendship with the masses of people.
