　　纪录片《宜昌薅草锣鼓》是人类学理论与纪录片创作嫁接的尝试，它对长江三峡地区农民互助合作劳动的制度——“换工搭伙”、以及服务于这一制度的管理工具“薅草锣鼓”进行了田野调查、搬演记录和研究阐释;揭示了民间艺术与农民的经济社会生活互相依存的内在关系;展现出随着技术变迁(除草剂取代人工除草)，换工搭伙制度解体及薅草锣鼓衰落的脉络。在当代剧烈的社会变迁中，“薅草锣鼓”这一乡土社会的“百科全书”、音乐博物馆，终于成为濒危的非物质文化遗产。本片拍摄中关键艺人意外死亡，更凸显了抢救工作的急迫性、记录影像的珍贵性。

　　The documentary film Weeding Drumming is an attempt to graft anthropological theory onto documentary creation. It surveyed, recorded and studied labor exchange behaviors between farmers in the Three Gorges region of the Yangtze River and a labor management method called Weeding Drumming, revealing the interdependence between folk art and farmers’ economic and social life, illustrating a storyline of how technology changes (herbicides replacing manual weeding), how labor-exchange system disintegrated and how Weeding Drumming declined. While drastic social changes are taking place, Weeding Drumming, as an encyclopedia and music museum of China’s rural society, finally becomes an endangered intangible cultural heritage. The accidental death of an important artist during the shooting of the film further emphasizes the urgency of rescuing Weeding Drumming and the preciousness of recording it.
