湖北省作家协会是由中共湖北省委宣传部主管的作家、文学理论工作者、文学编辑工作者、文学教育工作者、文学翻译工作者和文学组织工作者自愿结合的专业性人民团体，正厅级单位。英文译名为 Hubei Writers Association，缩写为HBWA。前身是 1953年6月正式成立的中南作家协会。1985年3月从湖北省文学艺术界联合会分出单独建制。1991年9月，由中国作家协会湖北分会更名为湖北省作家协会，并作为团体会员加入中国作家协会。

　　Hubei Provincial Writer’s Association, a department-level organization under the administration by the Publicity Department of CPC Hubei Provincial Committee, is a professional social organization voluntarily established by writers, literary theorists, literary editors, literary educators, literary translators and literary organization workers. It was formerly known as the Central South Writers Association established in June, 1953. In March 1985, it became independent from HPFLAC. In September 1991, the Hubei branch of the China Writers Association was renamed Hubei Writers Association, a member of China Writers Association.
